After the Fellowship Orientation

To follow up on a previous post, I attended the Mcknight Doctoral Fellowship orientation last weekend. The good news is that I left feeling more prepared for graduate school in the fall. I was very fortunate to have state political official, university deans, and others take the time out of their busy schedules to help students like myself learn how to navigate the Ph.D. process. I’ll be sure to discuss the actual fellowship in another post…. The bad news is that I did not receive a computer, so I’m back at the drawing board.

Shopping for a New Computer

I’m finally getting around to shopping for a new computer. The old one has got to go because it is definitely impeding my progress. Honestly though, I have been trying to hold off on this purchase because I don’t really have the funds for it right now. In addition, I have been awarded a McKnight Doctoral Fellowship to attend graduate school starting this fall. So there is a chance that I may be surprised with a new computer to go along with the fellowship (this happened to me a few years ago as a McNair Scholar during undergrad, but unfortunately I damaged the computer). I won’t find out about the possible surprise computer until I attend orientation for the fellowship program which is about a week away. In the meantime, I’m stuck hightailing it to the library or suffering with my time sucking, extra slow computer at home.
