11th Retight

My appointment for my 11th retight was supposed to be this past Sunday, but unfortunately I had to cancel it because as a grad student my money is not looking right about now.  I have 1 inch +/- of new growth and of course, my roots are starting to get out of control. Between the $85 visit and the price of gas to travel 2 hours to get there, I’m going to have to move the task of learning how do my own retightening up higher on my tasklist.

I am Soooo Overwhelmed

Hey readers! I would like to announce that at this very moment I am blogging from my new PC. It feels so great to finally have a computer that fits my needs! A lot has been going on, so I thought I’d write a post to summarize everything:

I had my 10th retight done yesterday. The next time I get my hair done, I’m going to have to travel 2 hours to get there (due to my upcoming move). For all of you constantly searching for Johadeni Nappi’s website, it is still under construction. As promised, I will continue to post their contact information (Address: 1638 9th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33704, Phone: (727) 823-9899).

  • Over the weekend, I travelled to Gainesville, FL (where I’ll be moving to) for the 3rd time searching for an apartment. Thankfully, this time was successful and I’ve located my future place of residence! Next step is coordinating the actual move for the first week of August.
  •   Today is the first day of my last week at my current job and I am so ready to move on. An interesting situation has been brewing and let’s just say that I need to get my software copyrighted ASAP!
  • I have more potential customers who are interested in my product. That means that I’m going to have to work at superspeed to get my business site, paperwork, pricing, etc. up and running. It’s going to be a LOT of work but I’m looking forward to it.
  • Chino   I am going home to Miami, FL this upcoming weekend to drop off my puppy Chino (I’m not taking him with me when I move). Sure I’ll be sad but I think that’s the best I can do for him right now. When I move to Gainesville, I need to focus on getting situated with everything. Besides, my parents love him and they have a huge yard for him to run around in.

I think that’s about it. I’m trying to be quick because I do need to go off to work soon. TTYL!

Retight #8

Yesterday I had my 8th retight at Johadeni Nappi in St. Petersburg, FL (Address: 1638 9th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33704, Phone: (727) 823-9899). It seemed like this appointment would never arrive. Usually, I have my hair retightened every 6 weeks, but I think this appointment was scheduled out a little further than 6 weeks. I had so much new hair growth that my scalp felt very cluttered. This visit was unique in different ways. It was the first time since I’ve had my sisterlocks installed that I have noticed maturation and significant growth in my locks; I could really tell how far I had come. Also, this was my second to last visit at this beloved salon. I am moving out of Tampa Bay, FL in August so unfortunately I will have to find someone else to maintain my locks for me. To tell you the truth, I would like to learn how to do it myself (it’s definitely on my tasklist). During my visit, I inquired about my hair taking its time to lock up, and my loctician explained to me that it was due to my hair type (as I had thought). She said that I have two different hair types on my head: deep coil pattern in the middle & back (thus the spirals on my tips) and long curl pattern in the front (thus these locks tend to be more straight w/o spirals). To make a long story short, she said that coarse hair usually will lock up within ~6 months and I don’t have coarse hair (there is no “bad hair”/”good hair” in my vocabulary), so who knows when it’ll lock up. There is a process that locticians can due to “seal” the locks artificially, but I will not do that for two reasons: 1) I do not even want to know how much they would charge and 2) I want to enjoy seeing my hair evolve naturally.

Lesson Learned: Patience is a virtue.
